This itinerary allows you to discover much of the best contemporary architecture of Ciutat Vella and the Sant Antoni neighborhood and explains the historical, urban and cultural evolution of the center of Barcelona.
Ciutat Vella has always been a space of contrasts and transformations that have been marked by social, political and cultural changes. This route through the center shows the main urban changes that have occurred in recent decades in the area, and explains in a clear and entertaining way the origins of the city and its many stages: from its beginnings as an Iberian city and Roman colony, through the medieval walled Barcelona, as well as the intense urban reforms of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, until today.
In recent decades, processes have been carried out to sponge and revitalize areas in the center of Barcelona, strategies that have not been free of criticism.
In this urban itinerary, apart from seeing some of the most relevant historical places and buildings, we will observe contemporary architecture by architects such as RCR, Mateo Arquitectura, AAAR Arquitectos or Carme Pinós, and buildings from different periods rehabilitated with success by studios such as EMBT, Lapeña Torres, Garcés de Saeta Bonet or Peris+Toral.
